Being Like Me

Do you have any idea what it’s like being me? I’m a gunfighter. Could I kill? Guy asked the question, “Do you regard yourself as peaceful? He predisposed the answer. “If you can’t admit you are capable of violence, you are not peaceful. You are harmless.”

I am peaceful. But I have deadly accuracy in the combat of real life. I do not lose arguments with lawyers. Interesting given that everyone in my youth insisted I should be a lawyer. Why didn’t I? Because prosecutors always want a conviction and a career based on conviction rate. Because defense attorneys have to scrape up excuses for guilty clients they know are guilty and dangerous. Because I have always believed in justice.

Lawyers always betray the same brain damage. They take the offense to destroy the opposing argument. If they make holes in your counter-argument, they declare themselves the winner. But they never actually win the argument.

Good minds. Destroyed by law school. By the destruction of the meaning of words.

I have won important arguments. A woman being bled to death by her husband in motion after motion had convinced her attorney to abandon her. I wrote a brief to that attorney, pointing out that he was complicit in her bankruptcy and destruction. Not a legal document, mind. I called him on the question of the ethics of him withdrawing because she could no longer pay what her ex was paying. He continued pro bono.

I won the argument I had no chance of winning, a concession that I was right by an opposing attorney. Which never happens. I took up the case of a teacher I had in prep school, who was — long after his career — condemned and expelled from memory, stripped of all his honors — by a school he had spent his life in service to.

I was denied a GoFundMe backup because he was accused of pedophilia. Only problems? He wasn’t guilty. He was dead when they charged him. And there was no evidence against him.

I wrote a letter to the Headmaster, a woke woman, like all headmasters now, and I accused her of wanting to move on up to Choate-Rosemary Hall where all these kinds of charges were careermakers. I was immediately informed that the Mercersburg Academy attorney would be in touch.

So I had a conversation with that woman. She could not make the case against the accused teacher. She conceded she had no evidence that would hold up in a court of law. She admitted that destroying a reputation after the fact against a person who could not speak in his own defense was a constitutional violation. She agreed that what was being done to this teacher was wrong. But she was clear that they had more money to make it stick. I made her say that she knew she was doing wrong. She did.

I never lose arguments with lawyers.

Same with every other aspect of life. Corporate. Legal. Social Network stuff. My wife says where they used to fight back, they’ve learned. They’re a’feared now. Fastest on the draw.

But here’s how it shakes out.

Still fast on the draw. Still deadly. Just can’t make it onto the street. When they come for me, and they will, I’ll be lucky to take a single one with me. No longer even have a gun. Just a trencher at my side.

My tongue though is the deadliest in the nation. Why people are truly afraid. I get lots lof likes, almost never a comment, not here or at my other sites. Which are all worthy of comment…
